Unity in Diversity in INDIA
India is a democratic country. India has fought unitedly against the British rule under the Leadership of the Mahatma Gandhi. Because of its spirit of unity got Independence on day 15th August, 1947. The same spirit is needed for the continuous growth and happiness of the Nation. Only when there is peace, we can develop into a great Nation. So National Integration is essential forever. Integrity of a nation is important for its security and prosperity. India is a very big country with 28 states. Geographically India is a vast country because the whole country is well bounded by the nature. In the north is the Himalayan Range. In the south side is the Indian Ocean, In the East is the Bay of Bengal and In the Opposite side is the Arabian Sea. India is a country of rich cultural heritage with different types of colours, casts, creeds, religions, manners, languages, dialects, social customs, food habits, dresses, traditions, fashions, dances, music styles and beautiful places. India is a country of diversity.
India is known for secularism. This type of countries is rare in the world. There are different religions like Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Parses’, Jainism, Buddhism etc. But Hindus are greater than any other religions. People are believe freely in their own religion. They follow their own religions without ill will. They live friendly with one another. They are not also interfering into other religion’s matter. But they are also helpful to other in difficult situation. There are no doubt, different factions, sections and sub sections but basically Indian people believe in Dharma and Karma. They celebrate many festivals like Holi, Diwali, Id, Christmas, Buddha Jayanti, Mahavir Jayanti etc. Here you notice one thing? There is ‘ali’ in Diwali(Hindu’s main festival) and ‘Ram’ in Ramzan(Muslim’s main festival). They speak various languages and dialects like English, Hindi, Gujarati, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Marathi etc. But most of the people are speak Hindi language. It is said in India that you will find a new language at the distance of every 12 miles. There are different type of foods are available like as Gujarati, Punjabi, South Indian, Kathiyawadi etc. Some International foods are also provided by Restaurant like Chinese, Italian, and Mexican etc. Indian people are following to the Western styles in matter of languages, foods, dresses, educations and fashions. Thus, Indian people are adopting the Western culture.
People of India have diversified interests. There are artists who are worldwide known and there are scientists who are known for their experiments all over the world. There are also musicians who are known for their music. There are painters like M. F. Hussain on one hand and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on the other hand who is known for his scientific approach. There are musicians like Zakir Hussain who known for his ‘Tabla’. There are different ideologies in India. Because of various ideas, there are superstitions too but there are progressive people too who hold belief based on education. If we glance at customes followed in different states and regions there is again a large variety. As far as important institute of marriage is concerned. Marriages are performed in different ways in all states. Even funeral rights are performed in different manner. Indian culture is dynamic and tolerant. So the foreign cultures tried to retain some of their basic features, they became part of the great Indian culture with the passage of time. Thus, customs and traditions of India are very interesting.
India is a country of diversity but there are similarities and differences both. The similarities you find among people are they all love their country. They all follow Indian traditions and culture. There may be regional effect while performing but people never miss following their heritage. All are proud of cultural heritage. There are differences in the way of following customs. There is a difference in food habit, dressing lifestyle, weather and environment but ultimately, people of religion, states and regions respect and love one other and live unitedly.
